Corporate Formalities Need to Be Formal

Published: Thu, 10/22/15

Hi

Say your company ownership is just you and your spouse, and a lot of company decisions are made as pillow talk.  Do you really need to have the formal meetings, give notice, and all that stuff?

YES!

As I explain in my latest blog post at http://www.llcwizard.com/hold-meetings, you need to hold regular meetings and document the discussions and decisions that come from the meeting.  This goes to the weight of evidence that shows your company is not just your alter ego.  It shows that you are treating it like a real company apart from yourself.  This all helps make sure that you receive the best liability protection LLCs provide.

Many folks shoot themselves in the foot because they take their minutes totally wrong.  So be careful.

This is the latest in my series detailing corporate formalities that you need to follow in order to show that you have treated your company like a company.  Use my 27-Point Formalities Checklist so you don't forget to dot the i's and cross the t's.
